Dr. Christie Peacock from Kenya Wins Prestigious Global Fellowship

December 8, 2011

NAIROBI, KENYA- Dr. Christie Peacock of Nairobi, Kenya has been selected by Ashoka: Innovators for the Public as a member of its global fellowship of leading social entrepreneurs.

Her election to Ashoka has just been announced and at an event in early 2012, Ashoka will be formally recognizing Christie for her many years of work innovating in the field of rural development.

Christie Peacock brings three-decades of experience in agriculture and livestock management to her innovative new initiative called Sidai Africa Ltd.

Over the next five years, Sidai Africa Ltd is on track to build a branded network of 150 franchised livestock service centers in Kenya, each providing quality animal husbandry and health goods and services to farmers and pastoralists. Sidai Africa Ltd centers will enable their customers to access all the products, services and advice they need to raise healthy and productive livestock. By establishing a desperately needed national network of livestock service franchises that will provide reliable access to affordable and high quality inputs, Christie is finally making it possible for the most remote farmers and pastoralists to effectively protect and invest in their most valuable assets.

Salim Mohamed, Ashoka’s Representative for East Africa, said, “We are very encouraged by Christie Peacock’s innovative model and we believe that this idea, in Christie’s hands, is really going to spread throughout East Africa. I think this is particularly encouraging for the rural communities that are currently cut off from the rest of the country.”

Dr. Christie Peacock now joins 45 other Fellows from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda elected since 2001 and more than 2,700 Ashoka Fellows globally.
